Two people had a lucky escape after their car ended up in a ditch in Haddenham on Saturday (25).

A female driver and a passenger both suffered from shock, but were not injured after their Nissan Juke left the highway near Good Hope Farm on Sutton Road.

“Officers were called to the scene after receiving a 999 call from a member of the public,” said a police spokesman.

“The vehicle is thought to be a write-off.

“Sutton Road (A1421) links Witcham Toll (on Ely Road) to Haddenham, and the incident demonstrates that even with the effects of Storm Doris out of the way, the increased hazards of rural driving persist in East Cambridgeshire,” added the spokesman.

PC Jamie Brown, who attended the incident, said: “The lady and the gentleman in the vehicle are shocked but have refused ambulance treatment.

“Thankfully it’s only bumps and bruises.”
