More than 100 people turned out to The Maltings last night to see Councillor Richard Hobbs elected as Mayor of Ely for the fourth time.
After arriving to applause, Cllr Hobbs said his challenge this year is “to make Ely a dementia awareness city”, whilst outgoing mayor Cllr Ian Lindsay thanked Cllr Alison Arnold for her hard work in the city council.
Cllr Mike Rouse, who was named deputy mayor, described the Ely City Council mayor-making event as “a very pleasant civic occasion” and said that he and Cllr Hobbs are looking forward to the challenges of the year ahead.
“It was a very formal event and then a chance to have sandwiches, a slice of cake and talk to people.
“I’m honoured to be asked to be deputy and delighted that my younger daughter, Cassie, will serve as deputy mayoress,” he added.
Among those in attendance were former mayor Cllr Lis Every, Lucy Frazer, Cllr Alison Arnold, Cllr Bill Hunt as well as many other local councillors and residents.
