Students and staff at King’s Ely Senior are celebrating what they say is an excellent set of GCSE results – with more than half of grades achieved being A*s or As.
A total of 53 per cent of all grades achieved this year were A* or A (Grades 9-7) and 26 per cent were A*s (Grades 9-8).
A total of 77 per cent of students achieved A*-B results (Grades 9-6) and the percentage of students who achieved A*-C results (Grades 9-5) was 93 per cent.
Vice Principal Academic at King’s Ely Senior, Jane Thomas, said: “This year group has been the first to contend with the challenges of the reformed GCSEs in maths, English language and English literature.
“They have worked incredibly hard across all their subjects and many have surpassed their expectations. We are very proud of all their achievements.”
Principal of King’s Ely, Sue Freestone, said: “We are celebrating some really strong individual performances and an increase, again, at the highest level of attainment.
“Many congratulations to the students and to the teachers who have guided them so deftly through the process.”
Academic Director of King’s Ely International, Matthew Norbury, said: “Once again we are delighted to celebrate the achievements, determination and dedication of our international student community and the school staff who have supported them.”
Under the reformed maths GCSE marking scheme, 100 per cent of students achieved at least a Grade 4 pass, with 96 per cent achieving at least a Grade 5 ‘strong pass’ while 33 per cent of maths results were at Grade 9-8 with 58 per cent at Grade 9-7.
In English Language, 99 per cent of students achieved at least a Grade 4 pass with 88 per cent achieving at least a Grade 5 ‘strong pass’. 27 per cent of English results were at Grade 9-8 with 40 per cent at Grade 9-7. Similar results were achieved in English Literature.
Triple Award Science results were once again strong with 91 per cent of students achieving A* and A grades in chemistry, 84 per cent in biology and 75 per cent in physics.
• Among star performers who achieved all A* or 8/9 grades were Abigail Hickman, who achieved seven A*s, one grade 9 and two grade 8s; Timi Abioye, who achieved six A*s, one grade 9 and two grade 8s; Maria Campbell who achieved six A*s, one grade 9 and two grade 8s and Elliott Johnson Hall who received six A*s and three grade 8s.
• Many students also achieved all A*/As or 7-9 grades, those being Sophia Ahmad, Angus Beetham, Sarah Bluck, Jasmine Choudhry, Rebecca Garrett, Eloise George, Natalie Gerighty, Abigail Hickman, Fred Hughes, Manon Lachmann, Holly Lancaster, Ben Topping, Zoe Wheelwright and Kirsten Young. A further five students achieved all A*/As and just one B grade, or equivalent. Holly and Manon also achieved A grades in their Additional Maths.
• The following students achieved full marks in all modules taken in a subject: Emily Oldham and Theo Taylor in French, Eloise George in English literature, Timi Abioye in religious studies, Rebecca Garrett in biology, Manon Lachmann in biology and chemistry, Abigail Hammond, Abigail Stubbs and Abigail Hickman in chemistry, and Holly Lancaster in physics and chemistry.
• A total of 33 students from 12 different countries also studied the one-year GCSE programme at King’s Ely, which sees them studying in their non-native speaking language.
• A total of 94 per cent of all international students achieved five or more A*-C grades. 83 per cent of grades were A*-B and 54 per cent were grades A*-A. Three students, Anna Abramova, Iana Kozymir and Julie Liu, achieved all A* and A grades.
