A heritage community market is celebrating its second birthday of trading in Littleport.
The community market has successfully traded on the first Saturday morning of every month with a host of local produce in the Adams Heritage Centre in Littleport’s Main Street.
Trade was particularly brisk for the much publicised birthday celebration.
Tracey Harding, town centres manager for East Cambridgeshire District Council, also attended and helped staff a stall or two and sold raffle tickets for the birthday hamper.
She said, “This market was part of the Littleport Town Team’s action plan. This monthly event has done much to revitalise the centre of Littleport, not just on the one day, but every shopping day!”
Littleport’s town team did a grand job promoting the anniversary event, and parish councillor Jo Webber got stuck in too, on the stall selling potatoes, together with parish councillor Debra Jordan.
New trader Clair’Marie Mackness and her Just4U cakes did a roaring trade - and portions of the wonderful birthday cake she made especially, were eagerly eaten by shoppers while they browsed some of the other tasty products on offer.
More baking was on sale from Artisan Bakes bread and pastries provided by Brown Bread with fresh ground coffee from Xue Cam Coffee.
Fruit and vegetables in abundance, Nourishing 4U even included probiotic cabbage in its range, along with mushrooms from May’s Farm, honey from Highfields Honey, pork, lamb and beef from Spinney Abbey, and the Cheese and Pie Man selling artisan pies and cheeses as well as award winning preserves from Nikki’s Handmade.
