A grant of up to £88,000 has been awarded to The Stained Glass Museum in Ely so it can develop its ‘windows onto the future’ project.
The aim of the project, which starts in April, is to enable the museum’s trustees and senior management team to ‘form a vision and strategic plan for a more accessible, sustainable and resilient museum and improved visitor facilities’.
Jasmine Allen, museum curator, said: “The museum has grown considerably since its successful redevelopment in the late-1990s.
“We are delighted to have received National Lottery funding to explore options and develop plans for the next stage of its future development.”
The two-year project is funded by money from the Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) and was awarded under the Resilient Heritage scheme.
It is the second grant the museum has received from the National Lottery, after the HLF helped fund the relocation and refurbishment of the museum in the south triforium of Ely Cathedral in the late 1990s.
The Stained Glass Museum, founded in 1972, is the only museum dedicated to stained glass in the UK.
