Hanging baskets will be hung again this year in Ely on Market Place and Market Street after the city’s in bloom group faced problems last year.
Ely In Bloom Working Group, which consists of one councillor and community volunteers, were unable to use the lampposts for the hanging baskets due to an issue last summer.
“The advice was given at short notice and all summer plants had arrived for planting,” said chairman Councillor Alison Arnold.
“The group brought forward their wish to make the gateway entrance containers bigger; this was so there was a more visual impact for visitors and residents when entering Ely.
“This was accomplished and seven made to measure planters by our estates team were put in place with Cambridgeshire County Council’s permission.
“Also, two extra hanging baskets were placed at Annsdale and opposite The Maltings.
“The lamppost issue has now been resolved.”
The yearly Ely in Bloom competition is held in July with a presentation two weeks after for the winners and overall winner. The working group’s colour scheme for this summer and winter planting will be to commemorate the 100th year of when World War One ended.
