Soham Town Rangers FC have once again staked their claim to win thousands of pounds to help improve their Julius Martin Lane ground.

The Greens are just one club entering Buildbase's £100,000 'transfer deal' competition for the 2019-20 season, where four non-league clubs competing in the FA Trophy and Vase competitions will pocket £25,000 each of building materials.

The club has outlined its renovation plans, including two standing and seated areas, plus disabled access and a perimeter fence at their ground to help it comply with step three regulations.

Soham also have plans for a football academy aimed at 16-18-year-olds studying football at BTEC level, as it aims to encourage the FA to use Julius Martin Lane for showpiece matches and cup finals.

In the second phase of applications for this season, judges from Buildbase and the FA will be looking for clubs that demonstrate a feasible renovation project that benefits players and supporters as well as the local community.

Aisling Kenny, HR director at Buildbase, said: "Non-league football clubs mean so much to the communities around them, but they are often in dire need of help.

"So far, we've given away building materials worth nearly half a million pounds and it's fantastic to see so many of the projects we've supported get underway."

Six clubs will be shortlisted and invited to pitch their renovation plans to a panel of judges at Wembley Stadium in April.

Clubs are encouraged to get fans to support their application through the Buildbase website and social media, where the club with the most votes will score a 'golden ticket' with automatic entry to the final.

The builders' merchant is also offering a discount on building materials to all clubs taking part in the Buildbase FA Trophy and Buildbase FA Vase.

Buildbase have been running their 'transfer deal' competition since it became the title sponsor of the FA Trophy and Vase in 2016.

Projects range from improvements for disabled and special needs supporters to clubhouse redecoration, and previous winners of the competition include Stowmarket Town, Needham Market and Tadcaster Albion.

Soham host fellow Isthmian League Division One North club Cambridge City in a Cambs Invitation Cup semi-final tonight (7.45pm).
