TRAVELLERS living on Soham's East Fen Common are about to be given notice to quit.

East Cambridgeshire District Council enforcement officer, Trevor Eagle, is preparing an enforcement notice which will be served on the family shortly.

The move comes after they lost their appeal against planning refusal for three caravans on land next to the protected common.

The family had argued during the appeal hearing that they needed a permanent base to allow their children to attend local schools.

But the appeal inspector dismissed their case because he believed the caravans intruded on their neighbours' privacy and detracted from the common.

After receiving paperwork from the family's solicitor in response to a request for details about site ownership, the enforcement notice will be served and a "reasonable amount of time" allowed for the family to leave.
