THE Government has said that about two-thirds of the recommendations made by an inquiry following the murders of Holly Wells and Jessica Chapman have been implemented.

Sir Michael Bichard's 2002 report into police vetting procedures following the murders of the Soham schoolgirls found failures and omissions that he described as "shocking".

Today, home secretary John Reid said that 21 of Sir Michael's recommendations to improve systems had been delivered, and added that work on the remaining 10 was under way.

He said a code of practice had been introduced over the last six months to advise police forces on sharing information.
