MORE than £1,000-worth of outstanding fines and costs owed by Sutton man Robert Smith were wiped out by Ely magistrates on Thursday.
But they did give him a six-month driving ban, after he was convicted of driving without insurance.
Smith, 34, of Ryemanmoor Drove, had also been convicted of failing to produce an MoT certificate to police, but no separate penalty was imposed.
Ely magistrates were told that he owed more than £1,300 in fines and costs, and the court cut them back to £250, saying it was "not a soft view, but a realistic view" of making the fines payable within one year.
