PROFITS from the illegal sale of counterfeit DVDs can be used to fund terrorist operations, Trading Standards has revealed.

The evidence, provided by Interpol, has prompted county council Trading Standards officers into issuing a strong warning against the purchasing counterfeit merchandise. This warning comes in the midst of a number of cases in Huntingdon and Cambridge in which illegal DVDs have been seized.

Leon Livermore, head of county council trading standards, highlighted the darker side of purchasing illegal DVDs:

"Many people believe buying counterfeit goods is a victimless crime. There is evidence that organised crime gangs and terrorists are using the sale of counterfeit goods to fund their activities.
