CHAIRMAN Carol Gilbey welcomed Rev Edwin Myers, and members to the annual general meeting on July 19. Rev Edwin Myers opened the meeting with a prayer. Carol read the minutes of the last meeting and these were signed as a true record. There were no matters arising from this.Carol gave her report followed by the treasurer's report. The committee agreed to continue for another year. Yvonne Long thanked Carol and the committee for all the hard work they do throughout the year, ensuring the continued success of the Wives Group.

While refreshments were prepared, members were handed a quiz to complete. After the short break, Carol gave out the answers to the quiz and the winner was Jenny Langley with 21 points. Another short quiz followed. Members were reminded of the next meeting which will take place at the Viva Centre on September 20 at 7.25pm. Carol organised the raffle and the meeting closed with the singing of the Vespa.

The South African evening on July 16: 60 people, including members of the Methodist churches around the area, enjoyed the event. The Rev Edwin Myers welcomed everyone and introduced a quiz challenge. Rev Myers gave a short talk about South Africa followed by the first song. Following Grace, there was a meal of yellow rice, mixed green salad and fruit chutney. Rev Myers then gave a talk on the South African flags. The pianist for the evening was Jim Ames. Wendy Beeton gave the vote of thanks on behalf of everyone and presented Edwin and Sue with a plant.
