Fire-fighters showed their appreciation to a Queen Adelaide packaging firm last week for giving the city's fire engines a home during a three-week refurbishment of Ely Fire Station.

Station commander Ady Slack presented David Atchinson, operations manager of DS Smith Packaging, with a plaque to say 'thank you' to the Ely Road firm for allowing fire-fighters to operate from its warehouse during evening shifts.

Mr Atchinson said: "We didn't really know they were here because it was so well organised."

Mr Slack said that DS Smith's help was invaluable to the community while the refurbishment was carried out.

"We would like to thank DS Smith - their help in accommodating us allowed Cambridgeshire Fire and Rescue to respond quickly and effectively to the calls we received during the refurbishment."
