THE nativity service began with prayer. Jim then gave out the notices and welcomed the many visitors and members. Musicians were Jackie, Alan, David and Eddie. With Anne leading the singing the congregation sang. Joy told the Christmas story. She reminded everyone of the Christmas Day service at 10am when we will be joined by the Methodist friends. Happy Birthday was sung to Molly and Kate. Myra then told the children the story, with the help of the puppets, of Tim giving Polly a birthday party and forgetting to invite Polly to her very own party. The children then gave a letter to everyone in the congregation, and this letter came from Jesus. The service closed with the singing and prayers. Lunch was shared in the company of friends after the service. On Sunday, December 17, there will be a Baptismal service, where all will be made welcome.
Morning service was conducted by the minister the Rev Jim Mullin. Jim opened with a few words from the Psalms and a prayer. There was a video for the children and the talk for them was about Paul in Athens and what he did for Jesus. The children were then given a band about what they could do for Jesus, if they were in any doubt as to what they should do. Gabrielle and Rachel took up the offering and Jim prayed for the children as they left for their classes. The congregation joined in the singing. Prayers were then said for the church worldwide and for the many Christians who are being held in prison for their beliefs, in both China and Korea, many for as long as 20 years. Prayers were said for our own leaders in this country. Jim then read from Acts chap 17 vv16-34 and it was from this reading that Jim took the theme for his sermon as People of Passion. The service closed with singing.
