AMBULANCE crews faced a busy festive period with emergency call-outs increasing seven per cent on Christmas Day compared with last year. The volume of life-threatening emergencies on the day shot up to the second highest the East Anglian Ambulance Service has ever encountered.
The day itself was the 10th busiest of all time, with 620 emergency responses for the service which covers Cambridgeshire, Suffolk and Norfolk. Christmas Eve was also busy for the non-emergency patient transport service as it aimed to get patients discharged from hospital home for Christmas.
