The big band sound of the Joe Loss Orchestra came to Ely Maltings on Thursday and helped boost funds for a special charity appeal. Soham fund-raiser, Angela Schunmann, had organised the sell-out concert in memory of her mother, Mrs Ruth Harvey, who died last year and to boost cash for the Lewin Stroke Unit at Cambridge's Addenbrookes Hospital. The Joe Loss Orchestra, led by singer Todd Miller with vocalists Natasha Brookes and Jasmine Day, performed a selection of modern and big band numbers to an appreciative sell-out audience. A draw for, among other prizes, CD and DVD players, a digital camera and champagne helped boost the final figure for the stroke unit to £1,100.
