NORTH East Cambridgeshire MP Malcolm Moss has adopted a humpback whale under threat from Japanese harpoons.

Mr Moss accepted an invitation from the International Fund For Animal Welfare to adopt Bluebell the humpback whale to show his opposition to Japanese whaling.

Mr Moss said: I am very happy to support IFAW's campaign to protect the whales by adopting Bluebell. Whaling is cruel and unnecessary."

The threatened humpback whale has been protected for more than four decades after being driven to extinction by commercial whaling last century.

Despite this, the IFAW says Japan has now added 50 humpback whales to its target list as it sails towards Antarctica to hunt humpbacks and other species of whale.
