WELL-WISHERS from all over East Cambridgeshire have been lending a helping hand to Littleport charity Branching Out after the Ely Standard reported the charity's double break-in last week.
A female pensioner, who told the Ely Standard she wished to remain anonymous, came in to our reception on Friday and handed over £500 for Branching Out. Workers at the charity shop on Main Street were delighted when the Ely Standard turned up with the cash.
Now a Sutton-based homecare and mobility company has also stepped in to replace the cash lost during the burglary.
Bartrams director Reg Young presented the charity with a £120 cheque on Tuesday afternoon.
And security company First Call are in talks with the general manager to install more security systems. Manager Susan Wiggans said they used to have a security camera but after the roof leaked onto it they could not afford to replace it.
She said: "We are absolutely thrilled to be back on track. The students and shop assistants loved it and even customers were jostling to get in the photo.
