THE Littleport community has come out in strong support of its leisure club after the Ely Standard reported last week that the facility had crippling debts last week.
Club members have raised more than £8,000 to save their centre and written letters of support (see postbag) But after a request for £67,000 of funding from the district council was refused, it is still unclear how the centre proposes to raise that money to clear debts of £40,000. Manager Andy Rutterford said: "We have a full committee meeting this evening (Thursday) to discuss our options which are either bringing in a management company, going for charitable status or further fundraising."
Chairman Lee Matthews said the centre needed an extra £60,000 over the next four years but that the debts were structured repayments over four years. The main problem, he said, was cashflow.
