MULTIPLE sclerosis sufferer Roberta Kish had already given up driving and had handed her licence back to DVLA before she was caught drink-driving just days before Christmas.

Police were suspicious after seeing her delay her exit from a car park in Soham, and she failed a breathalyser test.

"Her doctor has advised her to surrender her driving licence when she applied for a national bus pass as a result of her disability," solicitor Adam Haselhurst explained to Ely magistrates.

"She had not consumed a huge amount of alcohol that day, the car she was driving belonged to a friend, who had asked her to drive home. Foolishly she offered to do that for him."

Kish, 45, of Bakers Corner, Ely, admitted drink-driving, and driving without insurance or a licence in Regent Place, Soham, on December 12.

Because she had a previous drink-driving conviction dating back to 2004, she was banned from driving for three years. The court fined her a total of £200 with £60 costs and a £15 surcharge.
