THE trustees of the National Federation of WIs have the constitutional right, in consultation with county federation officers, to decide on the amount and distribution of the annual subscription. Do they also have a legal right to charge all members £4 for a magazine they may not wish to receive?

In 1919 the first consultative council was formed as a forum for ordinary members to air their concerns on the running of the WI. Each federation's ordinary members voted for their representatives to this council. In 1981, this council was replaced by the national council.

Now the chickens have come home to roost, and ordinary members are voicing their concern in the media. It is a lack of consultation with their ordinary members that has led to the present state of affairs.
