WE read with interest your front page story (November 15) concerning the reduction in the funding of the arts, which seems to have aroused strong feelings both ways in the community.
We cannot understand what the problem is in moving the Babylon Gallery to The Maltings, as has been suggested. The former is very poorly signed and never has any A-board outside advertising what is on there, while the latter is far more accessible to the residents of the city and has ample room for a variety of exhibitions, inside and outside the building. The Maltings also already has a good throughput of visitors and houses one of our better 'arts' assets - the cinema.
Savings surely would be made by vacating the present Babylon building. If it is rented then the rent will be saved. If the council owns the building, it can be sold as a prime riverside site and the money used to promote a variety of the arts, particularly local ventures.
