In the past Aldreth has always teamed up with Haddenham for the annual Blossoms & Bygones event. As Blossoms is not being held this year, Aldreth is going it alone!

We are gearing up for our first independent village vintage fete, celebrating the 1930s through to the 1960s. It takes place on Sunday, from 11am-5pm.

Elvis (Ian Coulson) will be arriving in his pink Cadillac and singing some of his greatest hits. If Elvis doesn’t appeal, there will be music from Salt Fen, the Rocking Ukuleles and Wicken Brass Band.

If music isn’t your thing, you can try the vintage cinema experience or browse some wonderful displays of 1940s memorabilia.

The children will have plenty to keep them occupied with races, games, face painting and ice cream from the vintage ice cream van. Maybe they will be cheering on their dad (or mum) in the tug of war competition – still time to enter a team.

There will be lots of fantastic prizes to win – including a free valet and MOT at Crown Garage in Soham, a wheelbarrow full of booze and a pair of tickets to the first Haddenham Beer Festival.

Artes Mundi Fair Trade Gifts will be open along with the Ty Gwyn garden where a ‘dig for victory’ garden has been created to commemorate the 70th anniversary of the end of the Second World War.

Once you’ve finished looking around at the displays of vintage vehicles and bikes to craft stalls, you can treat yourself to a cup of tea and some tasty home-made cakes or head for the bar run by the Cherry Tree Pub.

Thanks must be given to Cambridgeshire County Council, which awarded us a grant to help with our event.

On Saturday, there will be a vintage social evening in Aldreth Village Centre from 7.30pm. The Angels of Kaos will be performing with a vintage themed quiz and raffle.

Tickets for the social evening are £5 each from Ann Wells on 01353 741428 or anniew656@aol.com
