ONCE, the city of Ely had an amazing, church-like Corn Exchange and a beautiful commemorative Victorian fountain in the Market Square. In the 1960s the Corn Exchange was demolished to make way for a squat, grey, square retail unit. Then the commemorative fountain was relocated away from the Market Place. The fountain is still missing from the Market Place and the Corn Exchange is sorely missed as the centre of a city's community. Once it's gone, it's gone forever.
Please, East Cambs District Council, don't sell out a nature reserve that has taken over 200 years to establish for the sake of a country park. Preserve the wildlife and ecosystem of Roswell Pits. No moorings, no development. Keep the natural beauty.
