I'VE recently taken to wandering the streets and byways with Jake the spaniel. We notice various things as we pass by. The Give Way sign at the Fordham Road end of Tanners Lane must have had lots of doggy visitors over the years - it is almost rusted through at the bottom!

We also went for a look at the ditch at the bottom of Brewhouse Lane that goes through to the Weatheralls allotments. A few months ago it was full of tree branches. They've gone now but have been replaced by a lawnmower. Jake can't understand it, neither can I.

Jake is looking forward to seeing the new occupants of the commons. The town council has managed to find some cattle to graze East Fen and Qua Fen so they may actually start looking as they should again very soon. Apparently Jake will be able to get to know some pedigree highland cattle next time we go that way.
