I WOULD like to support the proposal for Wicken Fen as follows:

Geoffrey Woollard sounds like a dinosaur stuck in the past. We must look to the future of the countryside for our great-great-grandchildren who may well curse us if there is nowhere for them to relax and exercise and no natural life left for them to see, or history of our area to appreciate.

Surely there is no Compulsory Order to oblige the farmers to sell their land? As the older ones die out their children may not wish to carry on the hard life of their forebears.

The Vision of Wicken Fen is not going to happen suddenly or all at once. It is very long-term, even 100 years. We should welcome this and the willingness of the National Trust to spend on this project.
