LITTLEPORT Primary School pupil Joshua Hinchliffe was picked up from school in a helicopter on Monday ready for a day out at RAF Honington in Suffolk.

The helicopter ride and day out were organised for Joshua by the RAF's Kevin Fox, from Littleport, who read about the Ely Standard's campaign asking readers to send the youngster 'Get Well' cards. The six-year-old has been battling cancer since 2007 after doctors found a cancerous lump in his stomach the size of a melon. Joshua's mum Jannette contacted us to say that the one thing that cheered her son up was receiving 'Get Well' cards.

The RAF helicopter, normally used for transporting royalty, landed in the school field at Littleport Primary School with all of Joshua's schoolmates gathered outside to wave him off. The pilot then spent some time with the children, answering questions, before fitting Joshua with his headset and seatbelt and setting off on the 30-minute flight to the airbase.

While at the base, Joshua was fitted out with his own RAF uniform and will get the chance to drive around in some of the trucks and other vehicles the RAF have at the base. Joshua's mum Janette said: "Joshua was a little nervous in the morning, but also excited about his trip and we are thrilled for him and for the response we had on the day.
