I believe many mistakes were made and the more I asked questions or requested documentation as a councillor and parishioner, the more the council closed up shop.

IT was with great interest that I listened to the statement made by Gordon Foster, the chairman of Sutton Parish Council, which was aired on local radio on June 6. After two and a half years of trying to get Sutton Parish Council to acknowledge that mistakes were made, it finally has done.

As a councillor at the time when the community and development team policy was undertaken, I eventually had to resign out of disgust with the way the council was behaving. As I said to the councillors over the council table, ‘this council has made an appalling decision’.

I believe many mistakes were made and the more I asked questions or requested documentation as a councillor and parishioner, the more the council closed up shop.

The true cost to the parishioners of Sutton is yet unknown. Redundancies seem inevitable. If employees do have continuity of service from their previous employer, the county council, this could be very costly indeed.

As part of the process moving forward, we must look back and determine what went wrong, by examining all the key roles including that of the clerk. Only this way, may the parishioners of Sutton have any hope of avoiding the appalling consequences of failed business undertakings in the future.
