A ST George's day quiz raised £85 for the Soham branch of the Royal British Legion. Branch chairman Peter Brazier thanked Carole and Jonathan Hall-Smith of the Fountain who staged the event for their work and generosity.

Over the years the Hall-Smiths have raised more than £2,500 for local charities, mainly through the second-hand books that are always available in the fireplace of the lounge bar at 50p each.

There were several red and white flags fluttering on the day including one on the bungalow on Sand Street that always seems to have the right one available.

There was a difference this time, though. Almost every other flag that they fly has a particular cartoon character on it.

This one didn't. Perhaps they don't make St George's flags with Snoopy on them.
