AS far as I know Soham is still under threat from the A-board. Forget bird flu and global warming, the biggest menace at the moment seems to be advertising boards on the pavement. In an effort to ensure the safety of the citizens of East Cambs the authorities have been rushing around removing A-boards belonging to local businesses in Ely and Littleport and holding them to ransom. Apparently people might fall over brightly coloured boards, but not little black posts stuck in the middle of paths.
Likewise, signs beside the road advertising potatoes, strawberries and the like are periodically removed because they might distract drivers. The signs on roundabouts announcing who is sponsoring the plants on them appear to be ok, though, possibly because the council is getting some revenue from them. Loads of signs have recently sprouted up between Soham and Ely telling motorcyclists to THINK as they ride along. No distraction there, then.
