YOU asked for suggestions as to how the NHS could save money. I visit a lot of elderly and disabled people in their own homes and frequently find in a kitchen, bathroom or bedroom cupboards stashes of out-of-date or un-needed medication. Last week I visited a lady with at least six large bottles of antacid and four bottles of laxative which she did not use but which was supplied monthly on her repeat prescription. In this case it was just a waste of money - other medication could be more dangerous for a confused elderly person. Medications are expensive - monitor repeat prescriptions
