AT just 15-years-old Jack has established himself as one of Ely Sailing Club's brightest young prospects and has impressed on numerous occasions throughout this season with some superb performances.

As well as competing in youth championships during the year, Jack regularly competed against senior sailors and proved able to hold his own against some vastly experienced competitors.

As well as securing a superb top 3 finish in the club's youth regatta this year, Jack also scored top 10 finishes in the Summer Handicap Series, Roswell Trophy and Spring Race Series.

Jack had a fantastic season sailing in the topper class and after picking up several gongs at Ely Sailing Club's own awards, he is expected to move on to bigger and better things again next season.

FOR many years now The King's Junior School has encouraged a wide variety of sporting activities for a great many students, both at King's and in the surrounding area.

Within the curriculum boys and girls are offered the opportunity to take part in numerous sports and pupils enjoy up to 250 minutes of timetabled sport which is enhanced by extra-curricular activities such as ballet, golf, judo and tae kwon do.

The school continues to encourage its pupils to pursue their enjoyment for sport within and outside the school and gain pleasure from a healthy lifestyle.

MR Wales has been headteacher at Rackham Primary School in Witchford for more than 20 years and during that time he has completely transformed it into the top sporting primary school in Cambridgeshire.

Most of these successful sports are taken, encouraged and promoted directly by Mr Wales and even if he is not familiar with the sport he takes an active role in supporting pupils to take part.

His ability to motivate and enthuse children in sport is an incredible gift and one that thousands of children are very grateful for experiencing.

TREVOR Hopkinson has been a long standing member of Ely City Hockey Club. In his 22 years at the club he has undertaken a number of different roles from player, umpire, coach, chairperson and president. Trevor is also chairperson of the Ely Outdoor Sports Association.

In his years at the club, Trevor has been instrumental in driving forward many ideas and plans. One of his key accomplishments was setting up the junior section of the club and this has seen many talented youth players move through to senior level.

Trevor is always at the club and takes an interest in all teams, playing and umpiring every week. He has an extremely personable and kind character and he is very valued by the club.

LEARNING to artistic rollerskate can transform the most awkward into the most elegant and can instil confidence and self-worth. For the last 10 years Brian Paddington has been a coach with Ely Artistic Skating Club and during this time he has encouraged, cajoled, inspired and above all achieved outstanding results for his skaters.

He never misses a training session, attends all his skaters competitions both national and international and is always available if ever needed. He mends skates, helps design dresses and is responsible for the choreography and music for each skater's programme. Skating is a huge part of his life and he never switches off.

FLAVIA has had an outstanding season in an incredible number of sporting pursuits.

Taking part in a wide-range of sports from netball and running to long-jump and hockey, she has showed a selfless dedication to a number of different clubs and has excelled in every respect.

Along with AAA awards for her endeavours in track and field, Flavia has also had sweeping success in local and school netball and county hockey.

Despite a packed schedule of competition, the youngster finds time to coach others after school and has also taken up shot-put to help her club, Cambridge and Coleridge.

FORMER King's School Pupil Charlie James only took up rugby seriously five years ago after a casual game at school re-ignited his interest. Charlie is deaf and has always found it difficult to get involved with sports at school as he had to compete with hundreds of boy used to relying on their hearing to take instruction and progress.

Charlie was undeterred however, and after settling into a local rugby club he discovered that the chance would be available to play for the England Deaf Rugby Team. Now aged 23, Charlie is an established internationall full back and regularly represents his country. Along with his dad Lyndon, Charlie also helps to promote deaf rugby and opportunities for other deaf or hard of hearing children to get involved with sport.

AT 62 years of age, David has continued to amaze everyone at Ely Tigers Rugby Club with his determination and will to win. David still turns out to play every week and from time-to-time appears for the development squad.

David is club chairman and provides leadership for the club at all levels, from youth right through to senior levels and he also takes an active role as chairman of grounds at EOSA as an unpaid volunteer.

David has championed work with groups of less able sports people and has worked hard to accommodate everyone who has shown an interest in the game. He is an incredibly nice person and always has time for everyone.

THIS recently formed village club has enjoyed amazing success in recent years, gaining promotion on each of the last three seasons to compete now at the highest level.

They are very much a vital part of the village with virtually all the players in the 1st or 2nd team being either residents of the village or ex pupils from Rackham Primary School.

They are enthusiastically led by Vicki Emms and though they operate on a very limited budget, they have still managed to expand in recent years with members attending coaching and umpiring courses so the team can build on its success.

DAISY has enjoyed a landmark season with the Ely Runners club, smashing numerous personal bests and leading the way for the club in several top competitions.

During last season she achieved no less than eight personal bests to go with eight club records and a staggering eight race wins including the Littleport 10k and the East Cambs Half-Marathon. Daisy is incredibly dedicated to the sport and the club and is always ready to give 100 per cent. At just 18-years-old she has a very bright future and we look forward to seeing her continue to break records at the highest level.
