IF you pay any attention to the television you would think that all outdoor sport involves either running after a ball or running around in circles (and coming seventh, if you are lucky). There are some people in Fountain Lane who would dispute that. Soham bowls club has been getting people out in the fresh air for many years now, and would like more people to share their sport. You only have to watch the indoor game when it gets an occasional airing on the television to see that what was once considered an old man's sport is nothing of the sort. Admittedly it can and is played by many people in at least their third flush of youth, but an awful lot of young people enjoy it too.
If bowls is one of those things that you've always wanted to have a go at, but never got round to, Sunday could well be just for you. With the opening of the greens, Soham Bowls Club is inviting absolutely anyone who would like to try the game to come along on Sunday, from 2pm to have a 'roll up'. A pair of flat, unpatterned shoes would be useful, or a pair of socks without holes in them.
