I WRITE regarding your flooding at Welney feature.
I'm not aware that there has been excessive rain this year. The Ouse at Ely is regularly 10 inches down from normal, while the washes remain far higher than normal.
I believe the flooding at Welney is entirely due to engineering works in preparation for the British Waterways narrow boat festival in St Ives later this year. Work on the pumps at St German? Trying to flush Salters Lock out? Did you know that they will need to open both gates at Salters Lock at the same time, to accomodate the longest narrow boats?
