AMONG the many fascinating memories in Ken's book (available at many, various and often surprising places in town) is the family's first excursion to Hunstanton in Ken's father's newly acquired Model T Ford van. As well as the Isaacsons, my grandparents and dad were crammed in. On the way home, they had a crisis. One of the tyres punctured. Of course, there was no spare or repair kit. Granddad Fred, always a resourceful little bloke, had a bright idea. He set the whole party to work pulling grass. When they had enough they stuffed the offending tyre with it and made their way carefully home.
