FOR the first time, the village college year 11 prom is being held outside Soham this year. Tomorrow night's exhibition of limos, lorries, Harleys and whatever else active minds can come up with will be homing in on Chippenham. Unfortunately, there is no chance to get into the venue if you are not involved. (No, dad, buying a dress and hiring a car doesn't count as being involved.) It's a shame for those of us who enjoy the free show, but let's hope the promenaders enjoy themselves, they've worked hard enough, after all.

The following day, on Saturday, all eyes are on the annual Wicken Fete. This year it will have a James Bond theme, as it will be opened by Wing Commander Ken Wallis with his autogyro Little Nellie that he built and flew for the film You Only Live Twice. There will, of course, be the usual dog show and the opportunity to meet and chat with old friends.

Another group spending time out of town will be the 2nd Soham Scouts who will be canoeing from Cambridge to Soham over Saturday and Sunday. Since they got their new boats there's no holding them back. They will be spending Saturday night under canvas at Upware and storming Soham on Sunday.
