I TOOK the trouble to look at the plot of land proposed for the Broad Street car park extension after your alarming headlines in the May 4 edition of the Ely Standard.

I thought it extraordinary that the cathedral authorities could involve themselves in any scheme that would be detrimental to the town or the church.

It looks to me as if, properly screened with shrubs and trees, the scheme would work very well indeed.

I would suggest, however, that the long stay car park, on to which the plot in question abuts, should be changed to short stay. Long stay parking should be on the edge of town, surely?
