AT this time of year there can be a slight feeling of panic about. The schools have broken up for what seems like forever and there are people who need to be kept amused. Don't worry, there are lots of things out there to get their attention.

The first thing children should do is get their bored mums away from daytime television. Convince them that there is more to life than Jeremy and Trisha and get them out of the house. Pocket money doesn't stretch very far when you are trying to keep a mum amused so why not take her for a walk along the Lode? You could even take her to the bridge at Downfields and benefit from your share of the £340,000 it cost to build it. The fitness trail around the recreation ground should keep her happy for a few minutes, too.

So there is no reason for children to have to put up with mums moping about the house complaining that they are bored, there's plenty to do and, if the worst comes to the worst, six weeks will soon pass and you can get back to school.
