I HAVE only moved to Ely this month, but saw details of the Ely Masterplan on April 24 in the Ely Standard.
I am unable to comment on much of the plan, but am surprised and very dismayed that there is even a suggestion that the Waitrose car park at the end of the Cloisters might be covered with more shops. Please consider that this would be totally counter productive. People must be able to park near where they shop. Also, they need green space such as they have around the Paradise complex at present.
It would be a great shame if plans to enhance Ely were designed to achieve 'smarter growth' but should end up frustrating the community and changing the character of Ely entirely.
It is Ely's open, quieter heart which is its chief attraction to me and, I would guess, to many others.
