THANK goodness the council has enforced the rules of responsibility on Mr Borland regarding his derelict building in Ely. As a newcomer to Ely I was amazed at how such an eyesore could be left without official intervention, especially after all I'd heard about other various efforts to make the city a place of beauty and a tourist destination.
Mr Borland needs to consider the well-being of his home town and put his money where his mouth is.
I applaud this intervention, but would then ask questions about the other buildings that are in need of repair and maintenance. What happened to the grandiose plans for the re-facing of the appalling shop facias in the town square? They were due to be re-faced and brought into keeping with the city's showpiece area. Could the Ely Standard take on this crusade now and show it really has the well-being of the city at heart?
