FIRSTLY I must offer an apology to Mr Cornwall (Letters, Aug 24) for spelling his name incorrectly, but the same has happened to me, so this is irrelevant to the fact. Secondly, Mr Cornwall will not convince me that he was allowed to operate unofficially

FIRSTLY I must offer an apology to Mr Cornwall (Letters, Aug 24) for spelling his name incorrectly, but the same has happened to me, so this is irrelevant to the fact.

Secondly, Mr Cornwall will not convince me that he was allowed to operate unofficially as a signaller, nor will he convince me that the station master would have allowed this. There could have been one adjudicator for this dispute, and this would have been Douglas Bullock, but alas, he passed away a few months ago. And lastly, I'm not going to get into a slanging match with Mr Cornwall over this as it breeds bad feelings, so this is my last letter on the subject. I wish Mr Cornwall all the best in his retirement.
