I WAS most interested to see Sid Merry and Chris Tarrant photographed in your newspaper. I well remember Sid when we were school boys together at Silver Street Boys School in the late 1930s.
The headmaster was Mr Thrower. I think it was Sid who provided him with replacement canes from the riverside when the old ones wore out! I wonder if Sid will remember me? I lived at our sweet shop, next door to Bedford House in St Mary's Street, which was a girls' high school in those days.
