The 20-year Masterplan relies on Government funding for the Southern Bypass, which has been refused twice and remains unlikely.

This 'pipe dream' scheme will sabotage the less controversial, and realistic, local development framework with its 1,700 houses and current planning applications from various shops and stores.

The plan is far too optimistic and will stagnate the regeneration of Ely for many years.
