At Sainsbury’s, retailing is about more than quality products and great service. It’s also about supporting and helping the communities where we work, and being a good neighbour. We aim for our stores to be at the heart of the communities they serve.

Sainsbury’s Ely opened on the 15th February 2012 and created 300 part time and full time jobs within a 10 mile radius of the store, and is looking to have further involvement with a local charity of customers choice when the scheme launches next month. In addition to this, Sainsbury’s are the official sponsors of the Paralympics, and colleagues are being encouraged to take part in some Paralympic sports with a kit that has been provided to every store. Sainsbury’s Ely will be involving local schools to take part in some of these activities over the coming months, including sitting volley ball to get an understanding of what it would be like to play these sports.

Ever since we opened our first Sainsbury’s store in 1869, being a responsible retailer has been at the heart of the way we do things. Whether it’s helping our customers eat a healthy balanced diet, working closely with our suppliers and farmers, reducing our impact on the environment, playing an active role in the communities we serve, or making Sainsbury’s a great place to work, being a responsible retailer is part of our heritage.
