Maybe I am being cynical, but could the East Cambridgeshire District Council proposal to build on part of Ely’s Barton Road car park be a precursor to the introduction of parking charges?
The reduction in parking spaces is bound to lead to more motorists chasing fewer spaces, thereby giving the council the excuse they need to levy the charge?
This has always seemed, to me at least, to be their aim, and cutting the number of available spaces is just another ploy to achieving it!
