IT is very easy to take the Denver Sluice for granted. It should be celebrated. Without it, the salt sea would be part of freshwater rivers.

Let's celebrate the work of those civil engineers and architects who have been before us and let's do it by using the technology of our time. So a 'big up' from me goes to artists like Lulu Quinn. I salute you. I would ask that you ask your readers to look at the big picture.
Figures show that four million people and £250 billion of assets are at risk of flooding. The Environment Agency has allocated £12 million to flood defences over last five years. Civil engineering quietly working for the coming decades is unsung and taken for granted.
