I HOPE everyone managed to stay on the road the other day when we had the taste of winter. I didn't hear of anyone coming to grief, myself, but with snow and freezing roads, anything could have happened. No doubt it was due to the work of the gritter drivers who were out at all sorts of unsocial hours chucking sand and salt in all directions.

I picked up a very informative leaflet the other day about the Cambs County Council gritting and snow clearing. There is a map showing that the county is divided into four divisions plus Cambridge. There appears to be only one place in our division, the east, and it's not Soham. Yes, apparently Ely is the only place in the whole area. Elsewhere such places as Ramsey and Chatteris are worthy of street maps, but poor old Soham isn't even worth acknowledging. Anyone surprised?
