THE concerted cloudbursts of late have been a bit of a nuisance in Ely, apparently. How come a place on a hill manages to get so flooded? It is a bit of a worry for those of us who occasionally travel there, though. With the district council getting all excited about the introduction of parking charges (following on from the continuing fiasco in Newmarket) let's hope that they aren't thinking too deeply about the weather problems.
Give them their head and I can see dual purpose parking meters dotted all over the place: one slot for car parking and another for mooring charges for boats.
It's always easier to charge people than solve a problem, after all.
