YOUR readers may be watching the ongoing battle that I and my friends are waging against the National Trust's ill-conceived 'vision' that is intended, if and when implemented, to flood or turn thousands of acres of valuable food-growing Fen land into jungle in this area.
Well, thanks to the support of the many who have signed the on-line 'SaveOurFens' E-Petition at - http://petitions.number10.gov.uk/SaveOurFens/ - it has become clear that we are beginning to win this one, though we ask for many more signatures before the E-Petition closes in early 2010.
Another 'straw in the wind' was a poll taken at the end of a large and excellent meeting of Fenland History on Friday, held at Ely on April 2 under the leadership of Mike Petty. A National Trust spokesperson had addressed a previous meeting, but about 95 per cent of those present supported my line, with none against. I enjoyed speaking to the meeting and thank those who were there and did 'the right thing.'
