At the handover meeting Ely Hereward Rotary Club, outgoing president John Yates handed over to Janet Porter, the president for 2015/16.
Janet is the fifth lady president in the club’s 11-year history.
John’s year has been one of the most successful to date – raising more than £6,000 for local and worldwide causes including Pos+Ability, Act4Kidz, Ely Royal British Legion, Magpas, Ely Christmas Lights, Cambridgeshire FindaCure, Ely Town Crier Competition, End Polio Now and funding Shelterboxes for Nepal.
Funds are raised from a wide variety of events, such as Aquafest, The Santa street collection and the Ouse Washes Experience – as well as the traditional shaking of buckets and rattling of tins.
